William Brownlee, Married Isabella Reid, in Co. Armagh, Ireland.

They had Issue:

1. Henry Brownlee, born Co. Fermanagh 1821, was married on 5 October 1852[1] in Co. Armagh to Elizabeth Anderson, born c1834 in Derryhale, Ireland. Elizabeth was the daughter of James Anderson and Martha Lapann[2]. They left Cork, Ireland in 1864 aboard the 'Ganges' and arrived in Auckland, New Zealand February on 14 February 1865. This voyage was known as the ‘Death Ship” due to the high number of deaths during the trip when 56 passengers out of 474 passed away[3]. Their three youngest children remained behind but it is said that at least one of the sons came to New Zealand later[4]. They settled in Pukekohe where they were granted a 10acre holding, known as ‘The Paddock’ and at that time it was not necessary to live on it immediately. It is said that they travelled to Australia in search of gold and this is where Isabella was born[5]. Soon after they returned to New Zealand. Henry died on 30 April 1908 and is buried at Pukekohe.

James Brownlee (male child living[10]), born Ireland 1861, left Ireland when parents Henry and Elizabeth Brownlee emigrated to N.Z. (or came to N.Z. at a later date).  Married at Makauri, Poverty Bay to Margaret Mary Donnelly, born in Meaghara, Kerry, Ireland, daughter of John and Ellen Donnelly (nee Carey).  Lived in N.Z. 16 years, died in childbirth. James was possibly a lawyer as stated on his death certificate[11].

1. Margaret Brownlee who was more affectionately known as Greta was reared by Robert Brownlee and Margaret Jane Forshaw.

Robert Brownlee, born Pukekohe 1869.  Married Margaret Jane Forshaw.  He was a notable N.Z. athlete and held N.Z. amateur records for Broad Jump and High Jump after the N.Z.A.A.A. 10th Annual Championships at Carisbrook, Dunedin 1899.  The High Jump record he created (5'9-1/8") stood for 27 years and can be confirmed by N.Z.A.A.A. official record book. At the time of his feat he was 32 years old and a member of the Police Force stationed in Dunedin[13].  He died in Auckland 18 May 1940.

1. Margaret (Greta) Brownlee, born Te Karaka, Gisborne, 14 May 1907, adopted by Robert and Margaret Brownlee.  Married Henry Thomas Moore, died 6 March 1963 at Auckland.

9. Thomas Brownlee was born Pukekohe in 1871 and married at Pukekohe to Maria Adelaide Roose born 1873 in New Zealand. Thomas was a farmer and farmed the property granted to his mother and father, Henry and Elizabeth. The property was in Ward Street, Pukekohe. He farmed this until his death on 16 September 1950 and was buried at Pukekohe. The property remained with the descendants until about 1976[14].

1. Gordon Leonard Brownlee was born at Pukekohe on 29 August 1904. Gordon was married on 8 September 1937 at Helensville to Phyllis Dorothy Hill born 17 October 1903. Phyllis was a daughter of Arthur John Hill born 2 May 1872 and Euphemia Lamb Stewart born 24 August 1876. Gordon died 25 January 1976.

Anne would shop in Sydney. (I (Ian Edward Brownlee) remember Daniel calling into my printing factory at Katoomba each visit to say hi. On one occasion he had hired a car at Perth and driven across Australia. He also called into Strathbogie in Victoria to visit Allan Lindsay Arnold Brownlee and his wife Betty).
